After rinsing with water I would spray the inside with "WD-40", a water absorbing / drying and rust preventative agent (while drying).

Further information; you can purchase the following at a home builder's Store.

"Navel Jelly Rust Remover" Chemically removes rust on steel. Brush on and rinse with water $3.79 per pint.

"Lavatory Cleaner" Liquid Rust stain Remover--Dissolves rust into a clear, soluble substance that rinses away. 18 oz. $4.38
